Armenia has more than 40 political prisoners, opposition leader Hayk Mamijanyan claimed at a meeting of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly’s Committee on Political Affairs, Human Rights and Democracy in Yerevan on Tuesday.
Mamijanyan, who heads the Pativ Unem parliamentary faction, stressed that opposition figures are being held in prison and accused the Armenian government of exerting control over the judiciary. He added that several international organizations have raised concerns about the independence of Armenia’s courts.
