Lawyer Aleksandr Kochubaev's wife in stable condition after health crisis

The health condition of lawyer Aleksandr Kochubaev's wife has stabilized following a severe deterioration after childbirth, his attorney Erik Aleksanyan told Pastinfo.

Kochubaev’s wife had been in critical condition and on artificial respiration since October 28. At Aleksanyan’s request, Armenia’s chief prosecutor approved a change in Kochubaev’s pre-trial detention to allow him to be with his wife.

The lawyer had been arrested outside the Shengavit District Criminal Court of General Jurisdiction in Yerevan on October 16 after a hearing in the case of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan and others. He faces charges under Article 490(2) of the Criminal Code for allegedly making defamatory statements about law enforcement officials on Facebook.

The Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed the indictment, sending the case to the Yerevann Criminal Court for trial under judge Garik Abelyan. Kochubaev was initially placed in two-month detention on October 17 before his release on October 28.
