Armenian grandmasters Shant Sargsyan, Robert Hovhannisyan, Haik Martirosyan, Gabriel Sargissian and Karen Grigoryan will take part in the 2025 FIDE World Cup to be held in Goa, India, from November 1 to 26.
The tournament will be held in a knockout format, with 8 rounds. In each round, the players will play two classical games. If the score is 1-1, the winner will be decided in rapid and blitz tie-breaks, the Armenian Chess Federation reported.
In the first round, GM Robert Hovhannisyan will face FM Mohan Kavin from Malaysia.
GM Haik Martirosyan will play against FM Satria Duta Cahaya from Indonesia.
GM Gabriel Sargissian will meet IM Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage from Sri Lanka.
GM Karen Grigoryan will play against GM Ahmed Adly from Egypt.
GM Shant Sargsyan (seeded 33rd) is exempt from the first round. The top 50 players in the starting list will begin directly from the second round.
The first game of the first round starts on November 1 at 13:30 Yerevan time.
