Foggy days on the rise across Armenia in November

Foggy days increase sharply across Armenia in November as the country transitions into winter.

In Yerevan, dry weather is expected on November 1 and November 2-6, with light northwesterly winds of 2-5 m/s. Temperatures will remain stable.

Dry conditions will prevail across the regions in the next few days.

Sunshine duration during the month totals 120-160 hours, with only about 5-6 clear days. As the sun’s elevation decreases, daylight hours shorten significantly.

The average monthly temperature nationwide is around 1.5 C, with the first ten days being the warmest (+4 C) and the third ten-day period averaging –0.5 C, marking the onset of winter in the mountains.

Warmest conditions are seen in Meghri (9.5 C) and the Ararat Valley (Yerevan 6.5 C, Armavir 5.6 C), while the coldest areas such as Ashotsk average –1.8 C, with record lows down to –27 C. In Yerevan, the all-time minimum for November is –17C (1948).

Rainfall averages 41 mm, highest in the mountains (60 mm) and lowest in the Ararat Plain (20–30 mm). Exceptionally wet Novembers occurred in 1973, 1986 and 1994, while 1996 and 2010 were almost completely dry.

By mid-month, a stable snow cover (5-10 cm) forms in high mountain areas. Atmospheric pressure rises, bringing calm winter conditions. However, mountain passes such as Pushkin and Sisian can experience gusts up to 20-30 m/s.

Fog occurs on up to 25 days, most often in the mornings, especially in mountain passes.
