Armenian opposition MP says promised 'education revolution' has failed

Armenian opposition lawmaker Mher Melkonyan accused Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s government of failing to deliver on its 2021 pledge to build or renovate hundreds of schools and kindergartens, claiming the promised “education revolution has turned into an unfulfilled program and manipulation of numbers.”

In a Facebook post on Saturday, the Hayastan faction MP said that despite promises to construct or refurbish 300 schools and 500 kindergartens by 2026, progress has been minimal. In Shirak Province, only eight schools and 29 kindergartens had been completed by October 2025, compared with 114 planned.

He described the figures as “a verdict on irresponsibility and inaction”, warning that authorities were planning to close more than 40 schools in Shirak.

“Instead of the promised ‘construction and development’, educational institutions are being closed. The government is not building Armenia’s future, it is closing its doors,” Melkonyan wrote.
