Political analyst criticizes Pashinyan's Artsakh remarks

Political analyst Suren Surenyants has accused the Armenian leadership of aligning with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s agenda, calling it a sign of “lost self-respect”.

In a social media post titled “Aliyev’s agenda executed by Yerevan” on Wednesday, Surenyants referred to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recent remarks suggesting that the frequent use of the term “Artsakh” in Armenia mirrors Azerbaijan’s use of “Basargechar” to refer to Armenia's Vardenis.

Surenyants argued that equating the two terms undermines the historical and legal basis of Nagorno-Karabakh’s existence, portraying national memory as a “psychological disorder”. He warned that this narrative reflects “not just defeatism but vassal thinking”, adapting Armenia’s political discourse to Aliyev’s framework.

The analyst underlined that Pashinyan’s statements coincided with Aliyev’s talk of demographic expansion and territorial claims against Armenia. “The Armenian authorities are trying to convince society that adaptation means peace and that memory is a problem,” Surenyants wrote, adding that nations survive through “memory, dignity and self-awareness”.
