Gyumri municipal council meeting fails to convene amid lack of quorum
A scheduled meeting of the Gyumri City Council failed to take place today because of a lack of quorum. Only 16 of the 33 council members were present, one short of the 17 required, RFE/RL’s Armenian Service reported.
All 14 members of the ruling Civil Contract faction were absent, as were two detained members of the Communist Party, including Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan and Tigran Avagyan. The latter is reportedly set to resign, with his mandate expected to pass to the next candidate on the party list to prevent future quorum issues.
Councilor Narek Mirzoyan of the Our City faction was absent due to his wife’s health problems, his faction leader said.
