Yerevan to host Karen Asrian Memorial Chess Tournament in late November

The Karen Asrian Memorial Chess Tournament will be held in Yerevan, Armenia, from November 27 to 30.

The event will feature both Rapid and Blitz tournaments, bringing together 5 members of the Armenian national team and 5 top international players, the Armenian Chess Federation reports.

Rapid Tournament

The Rapid section will follow a 10-player Round Robin format with a time control of 15 minutes + 10 seconds increment per move. It will take place over two days — 4 rounds on the first day and 5 rounds on the second day.

Blitz Tournament

The Blitz section will be a 10-player Double Round Robin with 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment per move, also held over two days.

Prize Fund

Prizes will be awarded based on the players’ overall combined performance in both Rapid and Blitz events:

In the Rapid & Blitz events the standings shall be determined by the allocation of:

2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss in a Rapid game; and

1 point for a win, 0.5 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss in a Blitz game.

1st place – 4,000 USD

2nd place – 3,000 USD

3rd place – 2,000 USD

4th place – 1,000 USD

5th place – 700 USD

In addition, the Armenian Chess Federation will cover the travel and accommodation expenses for invited 5 players.
