Armenian company fined over water pollution near Amulsar

Armenia’s Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body has fined a construction company for breaching water-protection rules after pollution was detected near the Amulsar area in Vayots Dzor province.

The agency launched an administrative case on 10 November following an alert about contamination of a local water source. Inspectors carried out drone-assisted site surveys and collected water and soil samples from the affected spring and nearby streams.

The investigation found that between 1 and 8 November, Stroymontazh LLC had been digging an underground trench about 20 meters from the spring to install power lines. The work damaged the spring’s natural flows and clay-sand backfill used in the trench polluted the water.

Tests showed no contamination in adjacent springs or waterways.

The company director has been fined under Article 61(1) of the Code of Administrative Offences for violation of the rules that protect water resources.
