Vicken Euljekjian's health sharply deteriorates in Baku prison

The health of Lebanese-Armenian captive Vicken Euljekjian has sharply deteriorated in a Baku prison, opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan warns.

In a social media post on Tuesday, he revealed that Euljekjian is now unable to walk and requires hospitalisation. “He can no longer move on his own and the medication prescribed by doctors is simply not being given to him,” Abrahamyan wrote.

The Pativ Unem faction MP noted that Euljekjian recently managed to speak with his family after a long break in communication. According to Abrahamyan, the conversation indicated that Azerbaijani authorities are “doing everything possible to push Vigen to the brink of death.”

The MP also criticized international actors who have supported peace-building efforts between Armenia and Azerbaijan. “International organizations and states that praise the peace efforts continue to ignore the issue of Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan while prioritising their own geopolitical and economic interests,” he said.
