Samvel Karapetyan vows 'victory of justice' in message from detention center

Jailed businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan issued a message from the National Security Service (NSS) detention facility on Wednesday, thanking supporters and urging them not to lose hope amid what he called unlawful prosecutions.

 

Karapetyan said recent “shameful illegalities” and “cynical trials” had sparked public anger but insisted the authorities would not be able to maintain control for long. “They may keep power for six more months, but they cannot preserve the country or restore its dignity,” he said.

 

Calling for continued public mobilisation, he predicted that “within a few months” Armenians would celebrate “the victory of justice, the restoration of dignity and the defeat of evil.”

 

The Anti-Corruption Court extended Karapetyan's detention for two more months on Tuesday.
