Armenian customs officers seize 6,530 packs of illicit cigarettes at border with Iran

Armenian customs officers seized 6,530 packs of untaxed cigarettes concealed in three cement trucks arriving from Iran at the Agarak crossing, the State Revenue Committee reported on Thursday.

X-ray scans showed the vehicles carried hidden compartments welded beneath their cement bunkers. Officers used cutting tools to access the caches and confiscated the cigarettes, which lacked excise labels.

Customs protocols were filed against three Iranian citizens under Armenia’s customs regulations and the case materials were forwarded to the committee’s legal department for further action.

The agency said that Agarak officers blocked attempts to smuggle a total of 31,830 packs of undeclared cigarettes over the past month.
