Armenian government allocates 3 bln drams to Yerevan amid transport fare shortfall

The Armenian government on Thursday approved more than 3 billion drams in additional funding for Yerevan to help cover a budget shortfall caused by lower-than-expected revenue from public transport fares and to support the capital’s transport overhaul.

The city planned to collect about 21.3 billion drams but now expects a 5.5-billion-dram shortfall, according to the government decision. The funding will go toward maintaining public transport operations and financing the purchase of 45 new trolleybuses.

The government has already covered 30% of the contract cost for the vehicles and said the extra allocation is needed to finance the remaining share and ensure continuity of 2025 spending tied to fare revenues.
