Armenian, Turkish ministers meet in Istanbul

Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan on Saturday met with Turkish Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli in Istanbul, with both sides stressing the importance of maintaining regular Armenia–Turkey contacts and reaffirming their readiness to continue dialogue, the Armenian Economy Ministry reported.

Yumakli praised Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recent visit to Turkey, describing it as a positive step for bilateral relations.

The two ministers discussed prospects for reopening the Kars–Gyumri railway link, as well as new economic, trade and logistics opportunities emerging from the TRIP program. They also reviewed possibilities for diversifying markets, developing new transport routes and expanding areas of mutual economic interest.

Cooperation in agriculture was also on the agenda, including crop insurance, measures against hail damage and joint efforts to combat animal diseases.

Nairi Petrossian, Armenia’s permanent representative to the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), also attended the meeting.
