Rising fares, packed buses: Yerevan residents question public transport reforms

In recent years, the Yerevan Municipality has frequently announced reforms aimed at improving the capital’s public transport. At the same time, the cost of a single ride has risen from 100 to 150 drams. But how satisfied are residents with the results of these so-called improvements?

Panorama.am conducted a street survey in several parts of Yerevan to find it out.

While some citizens acknowledged certain positive changes, many said the current quality of service falls short of their expectations.

“During peak hours, buses arrive late and are often overcrowded, which frequently leads to arguments,” one resident noted.

Another expressed frustration over weekend services: “On Saturdays and Sundays, the service is practically non-existent. Are people not supposed to go out on weekends? It may not be a workday, but people are still moving around. Public transport should operate those days too.”

For many in Yerevan, the city’s “reformed” transport system remains a source of inconvenience, forcing residents to pay more while often standing on crowded buses.
