Police seize large amounts of drugs in Yerevan

Armenian police have seized large amounts of methamphetamine and marijuana following an operation in Yerevan on 26 November, authorities said.

Officers from the capital’s anti-narcotics division detained a 40-year-old man on suspicion of possessing, using and distributing illegal drugs. Police said he was taken into custody along with his Hyundai vehicle, where officers found a bag containing 201 grams of a substance resembling methamphetamine.

The case was transferred to the Yerevan Investigative Department, which launched criminal proceedings. Subsequent court-approved searches on 27 November uncovered a further 575 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 1,275 grams of marijuana-like substance in the man’s home. Five additional packages containing cannabis were reportedly found in his vehicle.

An investigation is underway.
