Armenian opposition warns of uncertainty over health insurance fund

Opposition lawmaker Anna Grigoryan has expressed concern over the lack of clarity surrounding a proposed health insurance fund set to receive 225 billion drams ($570 million).

Speaking at a parliament session on Tuesday, the Hayastan faction MP said citizens do not know what services will be available from January 1 under the universal health coverage plan and clinics lack clinical guidelines and unified diagnostic and treatment protocols.

Grigoryan also criticized the government for proposing the creation of a large fund to oversee the program, while details about its management and regulations remain unknown. She pointed to the now-defunct ANIF fund, which she said mismanaged 25 billion drams.

“The fund does not yet exist. We do not know who will manage it or under what charter. Nothing is known about the fund that will receive 225 billion drams,” Grigoryan said.
