Homeland Party warns of deepening repression in Armenia

The opposition Homeland Party convened its Executive Board on Saturday and issued a statement accusing the Armenian leadership of escalating political repression, undermining democratic institutions and using intimidation tactics against the public.

The party said the country’s “state of legal impunity continues to deepen”, arguing that the authorities have crossed “all red lines” by targeting dissenting voices, individuals and institutions. As an example, it pointed to the government’s campaign against the Armenian Apostolic Church.

The party accused the authorities of fueling “national division”, exporting internal conflict into the church and the diaspora.

"This consistent policy has a destructive impact on our unity and may irreversibly undermine our ability to confront major security challenges," it said.

The party further claimed that the authorities are now displaying “a show of force against their own people”, describing it as an attempt to intimidate the public ahead of elections. It added that these tactics may also serve “other long-term goals” tied to what it described as "promises" made by the government.

Calling the situation “unacceptable” and dangerous for Armenia’s future, the Homeland Party urged the people to assess developments “soberly,” adopt a clear civic stance and rally around genuine opposition forces.
