Analyst: Azerbaijan waging hybrid war against Armenia

Azerbaijan is currently conducting a hybrid war against Armenia through coordinated historical, political and informational narratives aimed at undermining Armenian identity and statehood, Iran specialist Vardan Voskanyan stated on Saturday.

“It is obvious that at this very moment a hybrid war against Armenia is being waged by artificial Azerbaijan. Failure to see this one would have to be blind both physically and intellectually,” Voskanyan wrote on Telegram.

He said the campaign operates openly through several narrative lines, including attempts to deny Armenians’ indigenous status in Armenia, portray Armenians as recent arrivals and question their right to live in the country. He claimed other narratives seek to divide Armenian society by blaming so-called “revanchist, separatist and fascist Armenians” for tensions with Azerbaijan and Turkey.

According to Voskanyan, a further objective is to delegitimize Armenian statehood by portraying modern Armenia as “Western Azerbaijan”, claiming historical continuity from former khanates, and arguing that Armenia’s independence and territory were granted by Azerbaijani goodwill in 1918.

“These anti-Armenian, false, aggressive and expansionist narratives are being promoted at all levels in Azerbaijan,” he wrote, citing officials, academic institutions, media and international outreach.
