Top U.S. official may visit Armenia early next year, analyst says

Armenia could see a visit from a senior United States official as early as February, according to political analyst Suren Sargsyan.

In a social media post on Wednesday, Sargsyan said the beginning of next year is likely to be “extremely active” in terms of the implementation of U.S. policy towards Armenia. He added that his information points to the possible arrival of a “very high-ranking” American official. The analyst also did not rule out the opening of the “Trump Route” early next year.

Against this backdrop, he said reports about the recall of the U.S. ambassador to Armenia were of particular interest.

“For me, it is extremely important to understand whether the ambassador will continue to serve during the visit of the senior official, or whether she will be replaced by a chargé d’affaires, since the appointment of a new ambassador within such a short timeframe is extremely unlikely,” Sargsyan wrote.

He also pointed out that the most senior U.S. officials ever to have visited Armenia include a speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and a U.S. secretary of state.
