Armenia names best athletes of the year

The Armenian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (MESCS) has announced the winners of the Best in Sport of the Year awards, based on votes from accredited sports journalists. The voting was conducted confidentially, with results compiled by a ministerial-appointed commission.

MESCS Deputy Minister Hasmik Avagyan thanked the journalists for participating, highlighting the event’s importance in recognizing athletes who have promoted Armenia internationally through their sporting achievements. She also acknowledged athletes not included in the lists, noting that their efforts are always valued by the state.

The winners in key categories are:

Top 3 Athletes: Varzdat Lalayan (weightlifting), Artur Davtyan (artistic gymnastics), Malkhas Amoyan (Greco-Roman wrestling)

Best Female Athlete: Aleksandra Grigoryan (weightlifting)

Best Athlete with a Disability: Sargis Sargsyan (chess)

Best Team: Armenia national futsal team

Best Young Athlete: Gaspar Terteryan (Greco-Roman wrestling)

Comeback/Breakthrough: Suren Harutyunyan (karate)

Athlete Who Best Promoted Armenia: Hamlet Manukyan (artistic gymnastics)

Best Coach: Pashik Alaverdyan (wrestling)

The Audience Choice Award will be decided via online voting, which closes today at 5 p.m.

Armenian Paralympic Committee President Hakob Abrahamyan emphasized the importance of recognizing athletes with disabilities, noting that this category has been included for the second consecutive year. The awards aim to celebrate those who have achieved significant success, enhanced Armenia’s international profile and promoted national symbols and values.
