Opposition politician accuses Armenia's ruling party of 'boundless cynicism' over celebratory video

Opposition politician Levon Zurabyan on Sunday accused members of Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party of displaying “boundless” and “unprecedented” cynicism after a video circulated on social media showing them dancing to a popular song.

Zurabyan, who has been named as the prime ministerial candidate of the Armenian National Congress in the 2026 parliamentary elections, said the footage was deeply offensive in light of the country’s recent history.

“After leading five thousand people to death, destroying Artsakh, undermining Armenian statehood, placing several dozen political prisoners behind bars, desecrating our faith and sacred symbols, sowing division and lawlessness, and effectively suspending the Constitution and the rule of law, they are now dancing like madmen,” Zurabyan wrote on Facebook. “In doing so, they are effectively trampling on the graves of our soldiers and Artsakh Armenians with demonstrative delight.”

“This is what cynicism looks like: boundless, unprecedented. It’s truly unprecedented,” he added.
