Prosecutor involved in Armenian archbishops' cases resigns

Arman Baghdasaryan, a prosecutor involved in the criminal proceedings against Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan and his 17 supporters has resigned.

Baghdasaryan was relieved of his duties by Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan’s order on 7 January.

He served as deputy head of the Department for Crimes Against the Constitutional Order, State and Public Security within the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Baghdasaryan did not attend Thursday’s court hearing in the case against Bagrat Galstanyan and his supporters.

A separate order issued on 9 January confirmed the resignation of another prosecutor. Armen Beglaryan, a senior prosecutor at the Yerevan City Prosecutor’s Office, was dismissed at his own request.
