Dome of Hagia Sophia damaged in severe storm

The severe storm and downpour, which have been increasing in intensity since the morning hours across Marmara, Turkey, continue to negatively impact daily life, Haberler reports.

In Istanbul, the roof of a four-story building was torn off due to the storm's effects on Aydın Street in Beyoğlu. As a result of the roof debris falling onto the road, a parked light commercial vehicle was damaged.

The finial belonging to the Mimar Sinan Minaret at the Hagia Sophia fell into the mosque's garden. The General Directorate of Foundations of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced on its social media account that after the wind lost its intensity, the relevant expert teams took the necessary safety measures and that the intervention regarding the minaret finial would be carried out meticulously.

The statement also mentioned that the fallen tree in the mosque's garden would be removed in a controlled manner by municipal teams.
