SOAR confirms receipt of letter from Vicken Euljekjian to his wife

The Society for Orphaned Armenian Relief (Buenos Aires Chapter) confirms that the family of Vicken Euljekjian, an Armenian-Lebanese civilian detained in Azerbaijan, received a personal handwritten letter sent by Euljekjian to his wife, Linda Euljekjian, on Thursday.

"The receipt of this letter represents a deeply emotional and significant moment for the family, following a prolonged period marked by silence, uncertainty, and psychological hardship. Any communication from Mr. Euljekjian is of profound importance, serving not only as confirmation of life but also as a vital emotional and human connection between husband and wife under exceptionally difficult circumstances," SOAR said in a statement.

SOAR expresses its sincere gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Geneva, for its essential role in facilitating, handling, and transmitting this correspondence in accordance with its humanitarian mandate. The ICRC’s neutral, independent, and confidential work remains indispensable in preserving family links, safeguarding basic human dignity, and ensuring humane treatment for individuals held in detention.

"While the delivery of this letter provides a measure of reassurance, serious humanitarian concerns regarding Mr. Euljekjian’s prolonged detention persist. SOAR reiterates the importance of sustained international monitoring, transparency, and humanitarian access to ensure that his physical and psychological well-being is protected, and that his treatment complies with international humanitarian and human rights standards," it said.

SOAR continues to stand in full solidarity with the Euljekjian family and reaffirms its commitment to advocating for the protection, dignity, and fundamental rights of all Armenian detainees. The organization calls on the international community and relevant institutions to remain vigilant and engaged, recognizing that sustained attention is essential in preventing isolation and safeguarding basic human rights.
