Employees of AntiFake.am media outlet on Tuesday held a picket outside the EU Delegation office in Yerevan, protesting a court decision to extend the pretrial detention of two opposition podcasters.
The group said it planned to hand an urgent letter to EU Ambassador Vassilis Maragos regarding an unlawful ruling by judge Manvel Shahverdyan to extend the detention of Narek Samsonyan and Vazgen Saghatelyan, co-hosts of the Imnemnimi podcast, by three months.
The letter also raises concerns about Samsonyan’s announcement of an open-ended hunger strike made in the courtroom.
After the protest at the EU mission, the AntiFake staff plans to deliver a similar letter to the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan addressed to the U.S. ambassador.
Protesters call for the release of the two political prisoners, highlighting Samsonyan’s indefinite hunger strike.
