Heavy snowfall following rain on Tuesday night left roads in Yerevan and surrounding regions coated in ice, creating hazardous driving conditions and prompting criticism of city authorities.
On Wednesday morning, social media users shared photos and videos of icy streets amid inaction of the Yerevan Municipality and its agencies. The slick conditions disrupted traffic across much of the Armenian capital.
Gevorg Stepanyan, a member of the Yerevan City Council from the opposition Mother Armenia faction, posted footage of the icy roads, describing the city as “mismanaged and neglected”.
“Recently, city officials were paid 1.128 billion drams in bonuses,” he added.
