Repatriated Armenian prisoner's health stable, daughter says

The health of Artsakh-Armenian Vagif Khachatryan is assessed as stable following his return from Azerbaijani captivity, his daughter Vera Khachatryan said on Thursday.

In a statement posted on social media, she thanked supporters for their messages and said she was unable to respond to them individually at present, adding that her father conveyed his gratitude and greetings to them. “My father’s health condition is currently assessed as satisfactory,” she wrote.

Khachatryan, an Artsakh citizen, was detained by Azerbaijani authorities at a checkpoint near the Lachin corridor while traveling with the International Committee of the Red Cross to Armenia in July 2023.

Azerbaijan accused Khachatryan of involvement in the killing of 25 Azerbaijanis and the wounding of 14 others in the village of Meshali, the Khojaly district, in December 1991. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison in Baku in November 2023.
