Iran, U.S. engaged in active behind-the-scenes diplomacy, Armenian expert says

Iran and the United States are engaged in unusually active behind-the-scenes diplomacy despite escalating rhetoric and mutual threats, according to Iran specialist Vardan Voskanyan.

In a social media post on Thursday, Voskanyan said that alongside the public “war of words,” there is “an extremely complex and interesting backstage diplomatic process” unfolding between Tehran and Washington, the details of which may become clearer over time.

He pointed to recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed that Iran had halted killings and executions. Voskanyan also highlighted an interview given by Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to a U.S. television channel known for its pro-Trump stance.

According to the analyst, Tehran’s choice of a pro-Trump broadcaster was deliberate, allowing Iranian officials to convey their narrative directly to the American public through U.S. media.

“While it remains impossible to predict how the situation will develop, the visible diplomatic engagement between Tehran and Washington offers some hope that a military confrontation can be avoided,” Voskanyan concluded.
