Two ethnic Armenians killed in Iran protests, official says

Two ethnic Armenians have been killed during mass protests and unrest in Iran, Armenia’s High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan said on Thursday.

“One death had been confirmed earlier, and the second appears to have now been confirmed,” Sinanyan told reporters after a cabinet meeting. “There is talk of higher numbers, but we do not have any precise information.”

Sinanyan said communication between the Armenian Embassy in Iran and the local Armenian community has been disrupted, making it difficult to verify details.

“At the moment, information is being obtained mainly through people arriving on flights from Iran,” he added.
