Samvel Karapetyan reportedly re-arrested

Armenian businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan has reportedly been taken back into custody by the Armenian National Security Service (NSS), ArmLur.am reports.

Citing its sources, the media outlet said the Anti-Corruption Court of Appeals on Friday overturned a lower court ruling replacing Karapetyan's detention with house arrest.

Karapetyan had been under house arrest with additional restrictions since December 30, 2025, following a period of detention lasting several months.

The Prosecutor’s Office appealed the house arrest and requested that Karapetyan be returned to detention on January 5, a move his lawyers described as unlawful. The appeal was formally accepted by the court on January 12, with the ruling set to be issued on January 16.
