Armenian opposition MPs visit political prisoners, highlight health concerns

Armenian opposition lawmakers visited three political prisoners on Monday, describing their conditions as a test of resolve and raising concerns over the health of one of them.

Garnik Danielyan and Levon Kocharyan, MPs of the Hayastan faction, met with Homeland Party member Khachik Galstyan, opposition podcasters Vazgen Saghatelyan and Narek Samsonyan at the Armavir Penitentiary.

Danielyan said they “are facing this trial with honor” and remain determined, expressing confidence that a joint struggle will produce results.

Samsonyan has been on a hunger strike for 11 days. Danielyan called on the relevant authorities and the Armenian Human Rights Defender’s Office to pay attention to Samsonyan’s condition, saying he requires urgent surgery due to health complications.

“My colleagues and I will continue to closely monitor the rights of political prisoners and, more broadly, individuals deprived of their liberty,” Danielyan said.
