Supporters of political prisoners protest outside EU office in Yerevan

Supporters of two detained Armenian opposition figures staged a protest outside the EU Delegation office in Yerevan on Friday, calling for their release and stating their detention is politically motivated.

The youth wing of the Homeland Party, along with other supporters of political prisoners Khachik Galstyan and Aram Kocharyan, gathered near the EU office to demand that the men be freed. Protesters said they planned to deliver a letter to the EU ambassador urging intervention.

Galstyan, the Homeland Party’s secretary-general, and Kocharyan, the party’s local representative in Vagharshapat, were arrested on bribery charges widely rejected as fabricated and politically motivated.
