Armenia to enforce air pollution rules on builders, licenses at risk

Construction companies in Armenia could lose their licenses if they fail to comply with new air pollution standards set to take effect on May 1, a senior official said on Monday.

Yeghiazar Vardanyan, chairman of the Urban Development Committee, told reporters the rules give builders enough time to upgrade sites to reduce dust emissions. Measures include paving access roads, covering soil surfaces with gravel and installing misting equipment during earthworks to limit airborne particles.

Companies will also be required to install monitoring devices in construction sites to assess air quality. Vardanyan stressed that the upgrades are not costly and can be managed through short-term rentals or permanent purchases of equipment.

Failure to meet the new rules could result in suspension or revocation of construction licenses, he warned.
