Arman Tatoyan says PM bid aims to bring 'real peace' to Armenia

Former Armenian Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan says his primary goal in seeking the post of prime minister is to establish “real peace” in the country.

In an Army Day message released on January 28, Tatoyan outlined four steps which he said would lead to sustainable peace, placing particular emphasis on national security and defense.

“The key purpose of my candidacy for the position of prime minister is to establish real peace in the country,” he said.

Tatoyan stressed that peace could not be separated from security, arguing that Armenia must retain the capacity to defend itself. “Nothing matters if we do not have peace and security, if we are unable to protect ourselves,” he said.

Referring to the armed forces, he said his proposals were centered on “a strong Armenian army and a strong security system”, adding that the state bore a responsibility to its citizens.

“We are accountable to the people,” Tatoyan said. “We bow before the sacred memory of our heroes and are indebted to their families.”

“Happy Army Day!” he concluded.
