Respiratory infections decline in Armenia

Armenia saw a sharp drop in cases of acute respiratory infections during the fifth week of 2026, the country’s National Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports.

The incidence fell 1.5 times compared with the previous week and was 2.8 times lower than the same period in 2025. Children remain the most affected group, with 80% of cases occurring among those aged 0-18, and the highest rates seen in children under four.

Health officials said rhinovirus, respiratory syncytial virus, parainfluenza, adenovirus and COVID-19 continue to circulate in the country.

The center urged the public to avoid contact with sick individuals, keep children with symptoms at home, consult doctors rather than self-medicate and refrain from using antibiotics for flu or respiratory infections. People are also advised to dress appropriately for the weather, maintain cough and sneeze etiquette, drink plenty of fluids, ventilate indoor spaces and observe personal hygiene.
