Armenian court delays ruling on archbishop's request to attend Sunday liturgy

The Armenian Criminal Court of Appeals has postponed a decision on whether Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan, currently under house arrest, may attend Sunday and feast day liturgies at a church in Gyumri, located near his residence.

His lawyer, Ara Zohrabyan, argued that participation in services was essential and also requested permission for the senior cleric’s nephews to visit him, noting that only his 66‑year‑old brother, who has health issues, was allowed under current restrictions.

The court said it would study international practice before ruling on the liturgy request, but approved visits from one nephew who serves as the archbishop’s guardian.
