U.S. reiterates call for all citizens to leave Iran to Armenia or Turkey

The U.S. Virtual Embassy in Iran issued a security alert early on Friday urging American citizens to “leave Iran now” and prepare departure plans that don’t rely on U.S. government assistance.

"Protests across Iran continue to escalate and may turn violent, resulting in arrests and injuries. Increased security measures, road closures, public transportation disruptions, and internet blockages are ongoing. The Government of Iran has restricted access to mobile, landline, and national internet networks. Airlines continue to limit or cancel flights to and from Iran, with several suspending service," the eembassy said.

"U.S. citizens should leave Iran now. Consider departing Iran by land to Türkiye or Armenia, if safe to do so," it added.

The U.S. has issued several similar security alerts over the past month. The Embassy last urged American citizens to leave the country in a warning on Jan. 14.
