Yerevan residents warn of worsening road conditions in Malatia-Sebastia

Residents and workers in the Haghtanak neighborhood of Yerevan’s Malatia-Sebastia administrative district say severely damaged roads are making daily travel almost impossible, causing repeated damage to vehicles.

Employees of local production facilities have shared photographs with Panorama.am showing the condition of the 1st street, which they say has not been resurfaced for years. The situation has deteriorated further following recent rainfall, with potholes becoming deeper and wider.

They claim that driving along the road has become stressful, costly and, in some cases, nearly impossible. Pedestrians are forced to walk through mud due to the absence of pavements and public transport options.

“Almost all of our vehicles have been damaged,” an employee said. “How long are we supposed to keep paying for repairs because of the local administration’s inaction? We have repeatedly contacted the municipal authorities, but no levelling or resurfacing work has been carried out. This situation is disgraceful and inhumane.”

Earlier in January, Yerevan’s First Deputy Mayor Armen Pambukhchyan addressed public complaints about potholes across the capital, saying that heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions had caused damage to asphalt surfaces on several streets. He assured residents that major pothole repair works would begin once weather conditions improved.

Those who raised the latest concerns say they hope their complaints will now be addressed, noting that there is currently no rainfall and that the coming days are forecast to be sunny.
