YouTube to launch monetization for Armenian creators in spring

YouTube will launch its Partner Program (YPP) in Armenia this spring, allowing local content creators and media companies to earn advertising revenue from domestic views for the first time, the company announced during a visit to the country by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance.

Until now, Armenian creators were only able to monetize views generated outside the country, as advertising was not enabled on locally viewed content. The move is expected to significantly expand income opportunities for Armenia’s digital creators and media outlets.

YouTube said its business model is built around creator success, noting that it has paid more than $100 billion to partners globally over the past four years.

Media analyst Artur Papyan says expectations around the program are high, but revenues will depend heavily on audience size, market dynamics and content category.

“For example, from the U.S. market, if you had around 250,000 views per month, you could expect roughly $300 in revenue,” Papyan told Panorama.am on Tuesday. “Creators with consistently strong-performing content can realistically reach the level of a regular monthly salary.”

Papyan added that the change is particularly important for news organizations, as additional advertising income could strengthen their financial independence and allow them to invest in higher-quality content.

“Viewers may complain about ads appearing before videos,” he said. “But on the other hand, they can be confident that content they value will have a financial foundation, enabling creators to continue producing it.”

The launch of monetization is expected to coincide with the rollout of YouTube Premium in Armenia. The paid subscription service allows users to watch videos without advertisements, download content for offline viewing and access YouTube Music.

“Typically, when advertising is introduced, YouTube Premium is activated alongside it,” Papyan said. “It offers better services overall, including ad-free viewing and additional features.”

Armenia’s Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan welcomed YouTube’s decision as an important step for the country’s creative sector and digital economy. Deputy Minister Gevorg Mantashyan said the development was the result of sustained technical and diplomatic engagement with international partners.

Leslie Miller, Vice-President of Government Affairs and Public Policy at YouTube, said the company hopes the program will amplify local voices and create new economic opportunities. David Allen, chargé d’affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Armenia, said the expansion reflects broader U.S.-Armenia technological cooperation and could generate new jobs in both countries.
