Five arrested in raids targeting oppositionists in Armenia's Vagharshapat, official says
Armenian law enforcement authorities conducted early-morning searches and arrests targeting opposition figures in the town of Vagharshapat, a local official said on Wednesday.
Sevak Khachatryan, head of the Victory faction in the Vagharshapat City Council, stated that officers began operations at dawn.
“Since early this morning, individuals with opposition views have been subjected to repression in Vagharshapat,” he wrote on Facebook.
The councilor added that searches and detentions were ongoing, with five people already arrested.
Khachatryan also claimed that members of the ruling Civil Contract party in Vagharshapat were acting out of fear.
