Armenian opposition MP says no report exists on 2020 war

Opposition MP Ishkhan Saghatelyan claimed on Saturday that no official report has been produced by the parliamentary commission tasked with investigating the circumstances of the 2020 Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) war.

Saghatelyan, a member of the Hayastan alliance and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) leader, accused the ruling Civil Contract party of using the commission as a political tool to obscure responsibility for the country’s defeat.

He recalled that in 2021, the ruling party proposed creating the commission, promising it would provide answers to all questions surrounding the war. According to Saghatelyan, opposition lawmakers had suggested stronger mechanisms for a genuine investigation, but those proposals were rejected.

“For four years, they told the public the commission would study everything and give answers. In fact, it became a platform to cover up questions, justify those responsible and conceal the real causes of defeat,” Saghatelyan said.

He added that the commission never presented a final report to a plenary  parliament session, noting that the majority of its members refused to sign off on a legal document. “It turns out there is no report on the 44-day war at all,” he said.
