U.S. strike on Iran highly likely in coming days, Armenian analyst says

The likelihood of the United States launching military strikes against Iran in the coming days is “extremely high”, Armenian political analyst Suren Sargsyan said, citing unprecedented levels of U.S. military presence around Iran.

In a social media post on Thursday, Sargsyan said U.S. force deployments in the region had reached “one of the highest levels in history”, adding that the U.S. military could begin operations as early as the next day.

“Judging by the structure of the military presence, the Pentagon does not appear – at least at this stage – to be considering any ground operations,” Sargsyan wrote. “The operation would likely include missile strikes.”

Sargsyan said it remained unclear whether potential U.S. action would be limited to Iranian military and economic infrastructure or whether it would aim at toppling Iran’s political leadership.

He also questioned why Washington had not acted during recent periods of heightened domestic unrest in Iran, suggesting that U.S. calculations may have been based on expectations that the Iranian government would emerge weakened, with reduced internal and external support.

“If the war begins, it would mark the first direct confrontation of this scale between the United States and Iran in history – in other words, a large-scale war – and its probability is at a historical maximum,” he said.

Sargsyan added that negotiations appeared to be yielding little progress.
