Armenian opposition MP blasts judges for political bias

Opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan on Saturday accused judges of serving the interests of the Armenian leadership and subordinating justice to narrow political goals.

In a post on social media, Abrahamyan, secretary of the opposition Pativ Unem faction, claimed that some judges had effectively become “an appendage of the authorities”, carrying out political instructions.

“It turns out judges become upset or distressed when people speak openly about the reality surrounding them,” he wrote.

Abrahamyan stated that these judges place political interests above justice, shape people’s destinies through their rulings and issue unjust orders. He argued that the same judges later complain about being insulted or unfairly criticized.

“Take a look at your track record and recognize the shameful mark you are leaving on the judicial system and justice as a whole,” Abrahamyan wrote, suggesting that some may one day choose to apologize rather than react with indignation.
