Public transport disrupted in Yerevan amid icy roads

Heavy snowfall and freezing conditions have caused widespread disruption across Armenia, leaving many roads in a near impassable state and forcing buses to suspend operations in parts of the capital, Yerevan.

Precipitation has affected the entire country, with numerous highways reported to be in poor condition, in some cases described as almost or completely impassable. In Yerevan, streets are coated in black ice, creating hazardous driving conditions and bringing public transport to a standstill in certain districts.

One resident reported that buses were forced to stop due to icy road conditions on Gai Avenue early on Saturday morning.

“Early morning, Gai Avenue — the roads are like mirrors. Buses have been forced to halt,” the citizen wrote on social media, sharing a video of the scene.

The footage, posted on Facebook by user Hrach Mkrtchyan, shows vehicles stranded on the icy road.
