Opposition leader says ruling party MPs may secretly back Pashinyan impeachment bid

Opposition lawmaker Hayk Mamijanyan has suggested that some MPs from Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party could quietly support an impeachment effort against him, even while publicly insisting on party unity.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Mamijanyan, head of the Pativ Unem faction, said discussions regarding the impeachment process had taken place with ruling party members as well as independent MPs.

“Obviously, a Civil Contract MP involved in this process would be reluctant to say so publicly,” Mamijanyan said.

He added that some ruling party lawmakers might sign the impeachment motion behind closed doors only to appear in interviews the following morning insisting that “everything is fine and the team remains united".
