Armenian analyst warns of fuel supply risks amid Middle East tensions

Armenian political analyst Stepan Danielyan has warned that Armenia may soon face uncertainty over its fuel supplies as global energy markets are shaken by escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Danielyan said Europe is already in the grip of an energy crisis, increasing reliance on Azerbaijani gas. EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen recently visited Baku for talks with President Ilham Aliyev, reflecting expectations that Azerbaijani supplies will play a larger role, even if part of that gas originates from Russia.

He argued that Iran is deliberately disrupting energy flows by closing the Strait of Hormuz and striking Gulf energy infrastructure, moves that primarily affect the European Union. He added that Israel’s role in the crisis remains unclear, with some theories suggesting indirect involvement.

Danielyan raised concerns that the Baku–Ceyhan pipeline could also be at risk. He said the coming days will show whether “Real Armenia” (a concept promoted by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan) can secure reliable fuel sources.
