Armenian polyclinic doctors face pay cuts amid system overhaul

Salaries for doctors working at Armenia’s polyclinics have already declined and are expected to drop further, physician and health organizer Gevorg Grigoryan has warned.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Grigoryan explained that recent regulatory changes removed per capita payments for insured patients from doctors’ compensation, leaving only payments for uninsured registered patients – a mechanism set to be abolished next year after the introduction of universal insurance.

He noted that March wages will include back pay for January, but cautioned that this is temporary. “Do not rush to celebrate by receiving a few extra pennies in March, because in April you will again get pennies,” he wrote.

Grigoryan also criticized mounting administrative pressure on healthcare workers, saying it has created a climate of fear and suppressed protest. He urged polyclinic doctors to unite and raise their voices collectively, warning that isolated professionals risk being “destroyed one by one.”
