Armenia's weather service dismisses reports of 'acid rain'

Armenia’s Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center said no changes in acidity, anion or cation composition were detected in precipitation on March 7-8, rejecting media reports of “toxic rain”.

The agency said atmospheric monitoring showed stable conditions and emphasized that upcoming weather patterns would be shaped by northeast air flows until March 11, followed by southwest currents from the Mediterranean basin between March 12-20. It added that no air mass intrusions from Iran are forecast, noting that southern cyclones typically reach Armenia from Iraq and only rarely from Iran.

Officials stressed that air flows over Iran are currently moving eastward toward Turkmenistan, making cross-border transport into Armenia unlikely. The center said it continues to monitor atmospheric conditions and will inform the public of any changes, urging residents to rely solely on official updates.
