13 people detained at Yerevan gambling hall over suspected drug possession

Armenian police on Tuesday detained 13 people at a gambling hall in central Yerevan on suspicion of drug possession and use.

Police officers from the Central Department of the Interior Ministry received operational information at around 12:35 p.m. that individuals at a gaming venue on Tumanyan Street were organizing cash card games and using narcotics on the premises. The tip also alleged that drugs were being stored under a refrigerator at the location.

Officers arrived at the scene and detained several individuals who were allegedly playing cards, as well as others suspected of illegally possessing and using drugs and engaging in unlawful entrepreneurial activity, Shamshyan.com reported.

During the transfer of the detainees to the Central Police Department building, two of the suspects threw away a substance later identified as narcotics with a total weight of 0.49 grams.

Documents related to the case have been prepared and transferred to the Investigative Committee’s Yerevan Investigative Department covering the Kentron and Nork-Marash districts. The investigation is ongoing.
